Bound in contemporary three-quarter green morocco stamped in gilt over paper-covered boards, spine faded to brown and with rubbing to extremities, some staining to boards, leather with a few superficial cracks; some offsetting from plates, including on the title page, light scattered foxing, text block otherwise generally clean. The folding tinted plate, "A View of Moscow," has been bound out of order as a frontispiece at front, the color plate "A Chief of the Bashkirs" has been bound out of order as the frontispiece for Volume II.
