Encompassing 76 original watercolors, numbered 2-77, executed on the rectos of 76 leaves of approximately 27.8 x 20.3cm; with some light soiling and a few minor repairs. Original watercolor album depicting Egyptian life, ca. 1840. Images include depictions of various parts of Egyptian life, including a view of the pyramids, a boat on the Nile, and 74 scenes of individuals and small groups engaged in the activities and costumes of daily life. Among these are depictions of women, soldiers and other armed men, camel and donkey drivers, musicians and other street performers, a scribe, and men at prayer. Likely a souvenir of a mid 19th-century German traveller.
