Illustrated with frontispiece by Stephane Picart after a design attributed to N. Poussin, repaired and mounted on heavy paper. Contemporary mottled calf, covers, spine and corners rubbed; richly stamped in gilt; morocco spine labels; edges stained red. Rochefoucauld's name supplied in ink on title-page, ink scrawl to each side of the printer's device on same and at foot of p.150; ownership signature on front free endpaper recto; scattered annotations; scattered dampstaining and soiling to prelims and text leaves; quires e and E toned; scattered foxing.
