Lot Description

Georgian sandalwood, gold, ivory, and hair work box English, circa 1791

With mourning slide to exterior, depicting a mourner by a tomb inscribed "Farewell But Not For Ever", composed of dissolved hair and sepia painting on ivory; and palette work "sprays" to interior, each with gold wire tie and cypher: "H", "M", and "L" which likely stand for separate individuals, all against a woven palette work backdrop; interior gold surround engraved "Ann Wood Died 23 April 1791 Aged 26"; retaining red leather display box.
