Lot Description
Two Historic Spanish-American War Fans Circa 1898
The first fan, having painted sticks and guards, is printed with three scenes depicting the sinking of the USS Maine in Havana Harbor, February 15, 1898; known as the historic event which was the catalyst of this war. The second fan, (with lavender dyed sticks, and leafs shaped as pansies) each of which pictures a celebrated individual closely involved with progression of the conflict and/or its resolution: President William McKinley, Admiral George Dewey, Army/Navy Commanders Nelson Miles, William Sampson, Winfield Scott Schley, Charles D. Sigsbee, John Davis Long and Governor Wesley Merritt.
