(Literature) 2 Vols. Hugo, Victor. Norte-Dame de Paris. Paris: Charles Gosselin, 1831. First edition, first printing, third issue. 8vo, late 19th- or early 20th-century half red straight grained gilt ruled morocco and blind patterned cloth, spines richly gilt, top edges gilt, other edges rough trimmed, very ocassionly slightly scuffed, by Aussourd. Title vignettes by Tony Johannot. Internally clean, bottom fore edge corner of the half title of vol. 1 expertly repaired and filled in, small paper faults at a number of other bottom fore edge corners - a few of these also expertly repaired and filled in, [expertly washed?]. [8], 404 p.; [4], 536 p., 211 x 129 mm. In custom, gilt-ruled brown morocco slipcase and cloth chemise.
The first printing was distributed as four separate issues of 275 copies each; the second, third, and fourth issues were designated respectively as the second, the third, and the fourth editions on their title pages. The above is designated "Troisieme Edition."
