First edition. Small 8vo, original silver lettered and decorated olive/grey cloth, top edge silver, other edges untrimmed, light edge wear, occasionally slightly scuffed. Illustrated by Howard Pyle, complete with frontispiece and full-page illustrations. Ink ownership on back of frontispiece. Internally generally clean. Bookplate of Granville Barker on front free endpaper. In custom black quarter morocco, gilt, and green cloth slipcase, and chemise.
With holograph six line verse quotation dated "Boston, April 13th 1893," "For Mrs. Mary Albert Barker," signed by Oliver Wendell Holmes. Strong and clear in ink on front fly recto. Quotation constituting the first six lines of the stanza of "Dorothy Q" beginning, "Soft is the breath of a maiden's YES:"
