Contemporary blind-paneled calf covers, old calf backstrip with raised bands and title gilt; early re-backing, covers scuffed and rubbed. 441 leaves with engraved portrait inserted between A1 and A2 as called-for; second state of engraving ("Aetat: 42...between oval", &c), portrait amateurishly restored and tipped-in qua frontis; first blank (A1) present but lacking final blank (Cccc8) and that not unusually. n.b. leaves A1-A3 loose, some light creasing to corners, some scattered closed tears to margins.
