(Early Printing) 1 Vol. Diodorus Siculus [in French]. Paris, abel l'allengier, 1585. Translated by Macault, M. R., and Amyot, Jacques; commentary and appendix by le Roy, Loys. Folio, margins trimmed to 330mm x 220mm. Ex-libris, professionally and tightly rebound in early 20th-century library buckram; benefactor's bookplate on front paste-down, modern endpapers. Appears to lack final blank seen in other copies but text collates complete with 686pp and 12pp index: [24] 151 [1]; [4] 153 686 [14]. Some toning and browning throughout, minor ca. early 20th-century repairs to title page inner margins. 17th- and 19th-century ownership inscriptions in ink on title page. See USTC 20864.
Amyot's (1513-1593) scholarly but literary translations of Plutarch and Heliodorus were especially prized by Montaigne and others, but he also discovered, and was the first to the translate (1554), the last two books of the Bibliotheca Historica.
