1 Piece. Document Signed - American president. Polk, James. Washington, March 3, 1849. 1 p., folio on vellum; light to moderate creasing along old folds, minor dust smudging at edges. Appointing William E. Polk Captain, Army of the United States. Countersigned by William L. Macy, Secretary of War. Signatures clear but starting to brown, vertical crease through center of "Polk," also a vertical crease between the "L" and "M" of Macy's signature. Paper seal, later ink annotations at upper right. Paper seal, engraved vignettes. Manuscript contents starting to lighten. Signed as president.
