Ludolphus de Saxonia. Vita Christi. [Strassburg: Carthusian Monastry, Heinrich Eggesteyn.], 1474. 1st ed. Folio, contemp. (or near contemp.) pigskin over bds; worn, front bd detached. Fine illuminated initial at the beginning, other blue and red initials throughout. 393 (of 394) leaves - lacking final blank. Double columns - 55 lines to a column. 350 x 255 mm - sheet size; text 270 x 195mm. 1st blank detached - with penned inscription. Worm holes to front & rear matter, tear at top corner of [f88] & staining on [f285/6]. Library inkstamp to margin of first text leaf. Dust soiled. With colophon leaf & 3 register leaves.
Goff; L-337- locating 8 copies; BMC IC, 804; Oates 123; Proctor 297; from Quaritch, Bernard A Catalogue of the Monuments of Printing., 18 - "The leaf of register of quires is extrodinarily rare, having always been detached from its corresponding leaf in the final sheet. This final sheet, although registered as one of ten leaves, had really twelve, - the first leaf being united with the blank at the end, the second leaf united with the leaf of the Register, but itself left blank, and therefore always cut out to the manifest peril of the Register. The last complete copy sold Christies New York, 1980.
