(Early American Newspaper - Thomas Jefferson / Sally Hemings Relationship) New York Evening Post. (New York), September 10, 1802. Folio, 19 1/2 x 13 3/4 inches; 495 x 350mm, 4pp; minor occasional light edge wear, a few light creases. Attractively toned.
Contains the infamous article by the political pampleteer and journalist Thomas Callender, featuring the first appearance of Sally Hemings, Thomas Jefferson's slave paramour by whom the President would father many children as confirmed by recent DNA evidence. This article ignited the most famous sex scandal in American history and appears in the New York Evening Post, owned by Jefferson's arch-enemy, Alexander Hamilton, who had endured his own sex scandal in the Reynold's affair. The above is likely the only contemporary newspaper in private hands which carries this historical episode.
