Lot Description

Victorian silverplated revolving oval tureen martin, hall & co., sheffield, late 19th century

The revolving domed lid with elaborate chased and engraved detail to reveal a dish and pierced insert, the base with an apron formed of swags and paterae, all upon hoof feet with ram's masks. The reserves engraved with the mottos "Confido" surrounding a hand emerging from a ducal cornet and "Candor dat viribus alas" encircling a robin perched upon a mural crown, the crests probably for the Boyd-Rochfort family.

H: 10, W: 16, D: 10 in.
