Lot Description

Meissen porcelain figure group, Bacchus and Ariadne late 19th/early 20th century, after the model by j.j. kandler

Modeled to show Bacchus sat on a barrel, holding a cup in one hand and a grape bunch in the other, before him a faun pours wine from the barrel into a bottle, behind him sits a lolling Ariadne, and beside her a young boy on top of a kid, raised on a naturalistic base with gilt rococo scrolls, blue underglaze crossed swords mark, incised number 2202, impressed number 94 nd gilt number 64 to underside.

H: 10 3/4 in.
