Lot Description

Art Deco platinum, carved emerald and diamond ring attributed to mauboussin, ca. 1928

Carved emerald cameo prong set, framed on either side by trapziodal pave diamond set shoulders accented by channel set baguette cut diamonds, unsigned. Note: The platinum links used in this ring echos similar themes used by important jewelers during the1920s into the early 1930s. French jewelers such as Cartier, Boucheron and Mauboussin went through periods of Asian, Egyptian and Indian influence. The ring is reminiscent of those periods in both setting style, and gem stone use. 'Fantasy carved' gemstones were popular among jewelers, in emerald, ruby and sapphire and set into pieces such as this, the most prolific example being the 'Tutti-Frutti' style bracelet. Like Belperron and Boivin, Mauboussin did not readily sign every piece produced prior to being purchased by Trabert and Hoeffer, in the early 1930s.

Ring size: 6, 6.2 dwt.
