Tintype of a Federal infantryman circa 1861

Sixth-plate with hand-coloring in a period, double-hooked case with embossed, patriotic motif with arched, brass mat. Full-view of standing soldier holding a rifle with fixed bayonet against contrived campground backdrop. A handwritten note pinned to the interior velvet reads, "A typical volunteer of '61."
