(Abraham Lincoln.) Autograph & Sentiment Album. Ca. 1864-1867. 12mo, orig. black morocco, gilt; rubbed & worn, spine ends defective. Slightly shaken.
Along with manuscript sentiments & signatures from the original owner's (Miss Boner?) friends & family the album contains the autograph signatures of A(braham) Lincoln, & several members of his cabinet: his private secretary, John Hay, Postmaster W(illiam) Dennison, also dated in his hand, "29 Oct. 1864," Sec. of The Navy Gideon Welles, also dated in his hand, "29th Oct. 1864," Sec. of Interior J(ohn) P(almer) Usher, also dated in his hand, "29th Oct. 1864," Sec. of State William H(enry) Seward, The album also includes the autograph signatures of Andrew Johnson, also dated in Johnson's hand, "Washington City / Jan. 10th / 1867," and several members of his cabinet: Sec. of Interior O(rville) H. Browning, so designated in his own hand - "Secretary of The Interior, Jan. 31, 1867," Sec. of Treasury Hugh McColloch, also dated in his hand, "May 30, 1867," Assistant Sec. of Treasury W.E. Chandler, also dated in his hand, "January 1867." Also includes signatures of several lower level Lincoln appointees. Signatures of Lincoln & Johnson each as President.
