Letter Signed. Jackson, Andrew. Nashville, December 1, 1817. 3 pp., 4to (2 sheets); 2 early 20th-Century horizontal cello-tape repairs on each sheet, overlaying but not obscuring the overlaid text, some minor browning & slight edge wear. Docketed. Dark, bold signature.
To the acting Sec(retary) of War (John C. Calhoun), relating to negotiations with the Native American Chickasaw Nation, "...I perfectly coincide with Col. Butler, & for the reason he has assigned, that nothing can be done with the Chickesaws on the subject named until the arrearage due them are paid... so soon as the money arrives I will proceed to the Chickesaw Nation, & use my best exertions to obtain a relinquishment to their title to the lands proposed..." Signed by Jackson as Major General.
