Lot Description

.22 Caliber Converted Colt Single Action Army with Martial Frame Produced Circa 1876

.22 LR. 5.5" barrel length. SN: 31203. (Mfg. Ca 1876) Reblued finish overall with replacement two piece varnished walnut grips and bullseye shaped ejector rod head. Single-action loading gate revolver with black powder frame and martial markings. Item was manufactured in .45 for Government service and was afterward rechambered for .22. The barrel has been sleeved and reprofiled, retaining a supporting rib for the ejector rod housing. Frame is martially inspected and displays both the U.S. stamp indicating it was once US Property, along with the L.D inspector marking of Lewis Draper, who assisted the principal Sub-Inspector John T. Cleveland during late 1876 and early 1877. Serial numbers match on the frame and forward gripstrap, but no number is visible on the rear gripstrap, and the barrel serial number has been obliterated. Cylinder was manufactured in .22 and installed during the conversion process. Further markings include the two-line patent mark reading PAT. SEPT. 19. 1871/PAT. JULY. 2. 1872. There is no barrel address marking. The front sight blade is pinned in place, and the firing pin recess shows an H inspector stamp.
