Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 22 hard images of men with facial hair and/or interesting hairstyles.

Quarter plate ambrotype portrait of a gentleman with a unique, somewhat triangular hairstyle and very thin, light mustache. (Few spots, areas of wear; resealed.) Housed in a pressed paper case. -- Ninth plate daguerreotype portrait of a man with heavy eye bags and a full head of hair, beard, and sideburns. (Some tarnishing to edges, spotting, dust particles; original seals.) Housed in a pressed paper case. Mat stamped "MCCLEES / PHILA." -- Sixth plate tintype portrait of a man, possibly of mixed ethnicity, with a mustache and a mouche, wearing small, gold-highlighted hoops in his ears. (Image somewhat dark, clouding to glass; unsealed.) Housed in a pressed paper case. -- Sixth plate ambrotype portrait of a gentleman of possible mixed ethnicity, having a long, full hairstyle and thick mustache. (Some fading, discoloration, spotting, wear to emulsion; unsealed.) Housed in a fully separated leatherette case. Pencil inscription behind image reads, "S. A. Bockins. Germantown Penna." -- And 18 others, including a half plate ambrotype, a quarter plate tintype, 7 sixth plate daguerreotypes, one sixth plate ambrotype, 5 sixth plate tintypes, one ninth plate daguerreotype, one ninth plate ambrotype, and one ninth plate tintype. Some loose, without cases. Conditions vary. -- Together, daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes of men with facial hair and/or interesting hairstyles.
