Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Half plate daguerreotype featuring a multi-generational family posed outdoors.
Striking group portrait of a family presumably including grandparents, parents, and children, all but the two youngest subjects standing together on a patch of grass and adjacent brick pavement. The two youngest children sit on the grass in front of the rest of the group. Foliage and a pillar or obelisk of some sort can be seen in the background. (minor tarnishing/spotting to plate, no preserver present; plate cleaned, reglazed, and resealed 2008.) Housed in a leatherette case (surface wear).
Modern note on replaced seal attributes the image to Frederick Langenheim and notes the daguerreotype comes from "a Philadelphia Estate."
Sally Anyan, The Daguerreian Society Past President
