Lot Description

** Smith Corona Springfield Model 1903A3
World War II

.30-06. 24" barrel length. SN: 3623108. Parkerized metal finish with blued small parts set in a straight wrist refinished walnut stock mounting adjustable rear aperture and pinned front blade sights. Bolt-action internal magazine fed repeating rifle mounting front and rear sling loops and bayonet lug. The receiver is marked U.S./SMITH-CORONA/MODEL 03-A3 followed by the serial number. Barrel is struck with the maker and date marking SC/{Ordnance Bomb}/12 42. Receiver serial number is consisted with 1943 manufacture. Item mounts a flat checkered trapdoor buttplate and stamped triggerguard and small parts. Left stock has been sanded and varnished with the original manufacture marks weakened. Left stock is marked with the {Crossed Cannons} followed by initials FJA for Frank J. Atwood, the commander of the Rochester Ordnance District, and whose initials are correct for Smith-Corona rifles.
