A Rare Thurston and Clemmer Three-Gallon Cobalt Decorated Stoneware Jug
Mogadore, Ohio, 19th Century
with impressed maker's and capacity marks highlighted in cobalt glaze.
Height 15 inches.
Similar Thurston and Clemmer vessels with nearly identical decoration are illustrated in F. Robert Treichler, A History of Northeast Ohio Stoneware, Carlisle Printing: Sugarcreek, Ohio, 2011, p. 58. The author is aware of only three known examples by these potters.
