Contemporary Flintlock Jaeger with Ornately Carved and Fluted Stock
John B. Derrick (American, b.1936)
.40 caliber. 33.5" octagonal barrel. SN: NSN. Browned metal finish. Walnut stock has ornate and extensive carvings of foliate and rococo scroll overall, as well as a carved beast grotesque to comb, drooped cheekrest to left side, and fluting to both butt and forearm. Flintlock jaeger rifle with adjustable cast brass diopter tang sight, two leaf folding notch rear sight, and brass fleur-de-lis front sight. Item features a patchbox on right side of butt, sling loop and stud, and double set triggers. Stock features wax-cast brass fittings with ornate filigree intertwined with foliate and grotesque motifs, as well as a stag horn forend cap. Includes a leather and cloth sling. Is without flint and jaws are fitted with a small block of wood.
