Lot Description
[OTTOMAN EMPIRE]. The Present State of the Ottoman Empire. London: for John Starkey and Henry Brome, 1668.
Folio. Engraved frontispiece, 2 engraved plates, engraved illustrations throughout. (Some minor spotting and browning, minor marginal fraying to a few leaves.) Contemporary blind-ruled calf (rebacked preserving original spine).
Second edition. The first edition, published 1666-6, was apparently almost entirely destroyed by the Great Fire in London, according to Pepys. "An extremely important and influential work, which provides the fullest account of Ottoman affairs during the 17th century" (Blackmer 1463). ESTC R18075.
