[GARDNER, Alexander (1821-1882), photographer]. CDV, portrait of Abraham Lincoln seated in a studio with an inkwell resting on the table beside him. New York: E. & H.T. Anthony, Brady Gallery (light soiling, lower right corner of print slightly separated from mount, top of print and mount edges/corners trimmed). Originally taken by Alexander Gardner in Washington, DC on 24 February 1861 [Ostendorf, O-49]. Following a train journey during which President-elect Lincoln traveled nearly 2000 miles and visited seven states, he went to Brady's Washington studio, where Gardner took five poses of him, each portrait capturing Lincoln deeply absorbed in thought.
[With:] Uncredited CDV of Abraham Lincoln (trimmed edges). After the photograph originally taken by Anthony Berger at Brady's Gallery in Washington, DC, 9 February 1864, subsequently known as the five dollar bill portrait [Ostendorf, O-92]. -- Uncredited CDV of "Lincoln and Family" (toning to margins on verso).
Together, 3 CDVs of Lincoln and his family, 2 1/4 x 3 1/2 in., or smaller, on cardstock mounts.
