Lot Description
POLK, James K. (1795-1849. Autograph letter signed ("James K. Polk"), as President, to Senator Lewis Cass. 6 April 1848.
One page, 7 7/8 x 9 7/8 in. Back page of folio with heavy chemical deterioration or residue, creased at old folds, few ink smears. Docketed verso.
Presumably from Washington, DC, President Polk writes, "Will you do me the favor to call this evening, if you can do so without inconvenience?"
[With:] KINCANNON, Andrew A. Autograph letter signed "Andrew A. Kincannon"), to President James K. Polk, Washington, D.C. 7 March 1845. Kincannon recommends Peter J. Sullivan, likely the same Peter J. Sullivan who later served as a Union general, for a government job. One page, 7 5/8 x 9 3/4 in. (some discoloration, creasing).
