[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. MORA, José María (1847-1926), photographer. Extensive collection of over 220 CDVs and cabinet cards of politicians, abolitionists, performers, and other notable personalities, incl. a self-portrait of Mora.
196 cabinet cards of subjects including poet William Cullen Bryant, rower Charles Edward Courtney; orator Anna Dickinson, inventor Mary Anderson, lawyer and statesman William M. Evarts, actresses Anita Manson and Bijou Heron; poet Bayard Taylor, Harry I. Montague, George Rignold, and many others. Many subjects listed are featured in multiple cards. -- 32 CDVs of subjects including Irish physicist John Tyndall; English biologist and anthropologist Thomas Henry Huxley; actress Kate Claxton; abolitionists Henry Ward Beecher and Wendell Phillips; statesman James G. Blaine; and others. -- Together, 228 portraits of notable 19th and 20th century personalities. All with Mora's imprint, most also with facsimile signature on mount recto. Conditions vary, though most in good condition, with varying degrees of toning, soiling, spotting and wear to mount edges and corners.
