Lot Description

Highly important Doulton Burslem 'Diana' Vase ca. 1895

Modeled by Charles Noke and painted by George White and Fred Hancock, the ovoid sides finely painted with the adoration of Diana the Huntress, one after an original by Auguste Renoir, flanked by an ornate baroque griffin handles, raised on a pedestal foot decorated in relief with mask motifs and enhanced with gilt, ending in four scroll feet, printed marks. H: 39 1/2 in.The vase was first exhibited at the World's Columbian Exhibition in Chicago 1893. This vase was illustrated in an article in Royal Doulton magazine "Gallery" Volume 19, Number 2 Summer, 1999.
