Lot Description
Two Chinese Blue Ground Silk Embroidered Lady's Garments
19th Century
清晚期 藍地雲紋綉梅花冰裂紋馬甲及藏青地綉蝶戀花紋褂
comprising a two piece vest, worked to the pale blue ground with a network of couched gilt threads organized suggesting a cracked ice pattern of prunus branches supported polychrome flower heads worked in taut knotted stitches, all trimmed in white ground borders piped black, affixed with buttons and tassels, each section mounted within a frame. The second a blue ground overcoat worked overall in a palette of 'three blues' with twelve octagonal roundels depicting figural scenes reserved by puffy clouds against a ground of butterflies and birds soaring amidst floral sprays. Centrally organized with an ornate cream ground 'cloud collar', shaped vents, and wide cuffs.
