A Chinese Huanghuali Two-Tiered Picnic Box and Cover, Tihe
18th/19th Century
清晚期 黃花梨兩撞提盒
the two removable trays set into the base stretcher frame fitted with upright struts flanked by openwork spandrels at the sides, the struts joined on top by a humpback handle, the top covered centered with a rectangular panel, carved to show two running deer underneath pine trees, enclosed by four winged bats on the corners, the sides decorated with low-relief carved panels with a pair of striding dragons chasing the pearl of wisdom, the wood of attractive color and grain.
Length 14 3/4 x width 8 1/2 x height 10 in., 37.5 x 21.5 x 25.5 cm.
