(Slave Sales.) American Manuscript Documents. Rives, William C., Aldemarle, Virginia, n.d. {ca. 1860] & Nov. 12, 1860. 2 4to sheets, each signed by W(illiam) C. Rives: "Memorandum of Negros offered for Sale by Mr. Wm. C. Rives." Listing over 20 slaves for sale, giving their ages, sale prices & general remarks. Small wound & cellotape repairs, minor staining. * Bill of Sale for more than 100 slaves. Cellotape repairs along folds.
William C. Rives (1793-1868), U.S. Congressman, 1823-24, appointed Minister to France by Andrew Jackson, U.S. Senator, 1832-40, member of the Confederate Government, 1861-62.
