A Gilt Lacquered Wood Figure of Buddha Shakyamuni
20th Century

民國 木漆金釋迦牟尼立像
depicted standing in a varadamudra gesture and holding a myrobalan above a double lotus above a hexagonal stand incised with ruyi cloud motifs. The figure clad in long draping garments parting at the chest to reveal an auspicious wan symbol before cascading in the crook of the left arm and setting in ripples near the bare feet, and with a gentle downcast expression beneath tight coils surrounding a red-lacquered ushnisha.
Height 14 1/2 in., 37 cm.
