[POLITICS]. A pair of jugate campaign posters promoting Cox & Roosevelt and Harding & Coolidge from the 1920 election.

James Middleton Cox. Franklin D. Roosevelt. America First. -- For President Warren G. Harding. For Vice-President Calvin Coolidge. Peace and Plenty. Prosperity.

2 lithograph broadsides with jugate portraits, 1920, visible 15 5/8 x 19 3/16 in. on wove paper, some creasing, tear to left edge of Republican example, matted and framed to 19 5/8 x 23 3/8 in. (not examined out of frames.

The 1920 Presidential election saw Ohio Senator Warren G. Harding representing the Republicans with Calvin Coolidge against Ohio Governor James M. Cox, chosen as the Democratic nominee. The Republican broadside features the portraits of the candidates alongside those of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and the perennially popular Theodore Roosevelt. The Capitol dominates the composition with vignettes of a rural farm and an industrial city. The Democratic broadside features the jugate portraits of the candidates superimposed over American flags with a spread-winged eagle and short biographies. Cox would lose in a landslide to Harding.
