Lot Description

WILSON, Woodrow (1856-1924). A group of 3 items signed by Woodrow Wilson and Edith Bolling Wilson, highlighted by presidential signed appointment. 


WILSON, Woodrow (1856-1924). Partly engraved document signed ("Woodrow Wilson"), as President of the United States. Washington, D.C., 18 August 1916.

1 sheet, 14 x 18 3/4 in., with blue wafer seal, docketing to upper right, minor spotting, manuscript portions somewhat faded, minor wrinkling to vellum. 

A document appointing Stuart W. Cramer, Jr. (1892-1957) as first lieutenant of cavalry. Cramer, Jr. was a graduate of the University of North Carolina and the U.S. Military Academy. His father, Stewart Cramer, Sr., was the leading manufacturer of textiles in North Carolina and produced Cramerton 8.2-ounce "Army Khaki" in 1929 which became the standard uniform cloth during World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam.

[With:] WILSON, Edith Bolling (1872-1961). Typed letter signed ("Edith Bolling Wilson"), to Jessie Randolph Smith. [Washington, D.C.], 19 November 1921. 1 page, 8vo, 6 1/2 x 8 1/8 in., old creases, paperclip corrosion residue. She thanks the recipient for her letter and enclosures.
