Lot Description
[MCKINLEY, William (1843-1901)]. A group of 10 campaign buttons and pinbacks, incl. "mechanical" elephant and stick pin, and jugate showing McKinley and Roosevelt.
Jugate "mechanical" badge in the form of an elephant containing paper photographs of William McKinley and Garret Hobart, 1 3/4 in. long (some light tarnish to surface, some toning/soiling to photos). -- "Mechanical" brass stick pin comprised of a paper photograph of McKinley at the center of a red, white, and blue pinwheel, which turns when blown, 2 1/2 in. long (including pin) (flaking to paint, some residue to surface of photograph). -- 2-part "souvenir" badge from the National Republican Convention in St. Louis, MO, 1896, 2 1/4 in. long (some tarnish to surface).
[With:] 7 cello buttons, measuring 3 1/2 in. dia., or smaller, including: Large jugate featuring portraits of McKinley and his wife Ida Saxton McKinley. -- Jugate button with bust portraits of McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt within "A Full Dinner Bucket," with additional slogans at top and bottom, "Employment for Labor," and "Prosperity - Sound Money - Good Markets." -- Colorful button featuring McKinley's portrait at center, with slogan "Protection / Sound Money." -- Cello of "President / Wm. McKinley," with portrait at center. -- Cello featuring McKinley against a gold background. -- "Sound Money" button, with gold bug against a blue background. -- Cello featuring "G.O.P." elephant at center surrounded by "Grand Old Party / Good as Gold."
Together, 10 "mechanical" pinbacks and buttons, most promoting William McKinley for the 1896 presidential election. Condition generally good to very good unless otherwise noted.
