Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A group of 13 ambrotype and tintype portraits of distinguished gentlemen, highlighted by 5 quarter plate ruby ambrotypes of businessmen presumably representing the same firm.

5 quarter plate ruby ambrotypes of men of varying ages, each taken at the same studio based on the uniformity of the portraits, the studio backdrop, and the mats used. (One with notable scratches to subject's face, otherwise very few blemishes overall; unsealed.) All housed under mat, glass, and preserver only, no cases. It has been suggested that this could be a group of businessmen, but this cannot be confirmed based on the lack of accompanying information. -- Half plate ambrotype portrait of a young man wearing a printed neck accessory and smiling subtly. (Speckling/spotting to plate, spotting to mat; original seals.) Housed in a hal pressed paper case. -- And 7 others, including one quarter plate ambrotype, 4 sixth plate ambrotypes, one ninth plate ambrotype, and one ninth plate tintype, many without cases. -- Together, 13 portraits of men.
