Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A group of 25 daguerreotype and ambrotype portraits of men with interesting hairstyles and facial hair, including:
Sixth plate daguerreotype seated portrait of a gentleman with long hair and a bushy beard, wearing a light-colored vest and jacket with gold-highlighted watch chain, and holding a cane in one hand. (Light tarnishing to edges; resealed 1996.) Housed in a pressed paper case. -- Sixth plate daguerreotype seated portrait of a well-groomed gentleman with sharply-trimmed sideburns and mustache. (Tarnishing to edges and upper portion of image; original seals.) Housed in a geometric Union case [Berg 3-124] (nicking to edges). -- Quarter plate daguerreotype seated portrait of a gentleman with interesting facial hair. Philadelphia: Reimer's Gallery, n.d. (Tarnishing to edges, heavy spotting, some scratching, oxidation to plate edge and mat; original seals.) Housed in a pressed paper case (separation to spine). Velvet pad marked for Reimer's Gallery. -- Sixth plate ambrotype seated portrait of a rather unkempt-looking man with long hair and untrimmed beard and sideburns. (Some image loss to lower portion of image affecting subject's shirt mostly; unsealed.) Housed in a push-button case. -- And 21 others, including 7 quarter plate daguerreotypes, 13 sixth plate daguerreotypes, and one sixteenth plate daguerreotype, many without full cases. -- Together, 25 daguerreotypes and ambrotype portraits of men with facial hair and interesting hairstyles.
