Lot Description
[SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR]. WALKER, W.G., photographer. Photograph of members of the Wyoming (Alger) Light Artillery. Cheyenne, WY.
13 1/2 x 10 3/8 in. silver gelatin photograph on cardstock mount (spot of loss to lower central portion of image beneath identifiation, loss to upper right corner, ink stain to upper portion along roof; mount with significant paper and adhesive residue, and large pieces of duct tape with which it was previous attached to mat). Loosely housed in 18 x 14 1/4 in. modern cardstock mat. Unit identified in the negative, "Alger Light Artillery," with photographer credited just below, on image. A group of 20 uniformed men, many armed with swords, pose in two rows on the porch of a home outfitted with patriotic bunting and numerous parade flags.
The Wyoming Volunteer Light Battery was organized in Cheyenne as the Alger Light Battery of the Wyoming Volunteers, or National Guard.
