Lot Description
[ROYALTY]. WINDSOR, Edward, Duke of (1894-1972, "Edward VIII, King of England"). WINDSOR, Wallis Simpson, Duchess of (1896-1986). Photograph signed ("Wallis Windsor" and "Edward Duke of Windsor").
[New York], n.d. [With:] Cecil Beaton portraits, Edward VIII abandoned coronation souvenir mug, and auction catalogues of the Duke and Duchess's collections.
7x 5 in. phonograph (some creasing). A portrait of the Duke and Duchess aboard the U.S.S. United States, SIGNED by both below their images.
[With:] BEATON, Cecil (1904-1980), photographer. Studio portrait of the Duke and Duchess. -- Studio portrait of the Duke of Windsor. -- Together, 2 silver gelatin photographs, each 6 x 8 in., National Portrait Gallery label to verso of dual portrait. Both images were taken at the Château de Candé, 2 Jun3 1937 on the occasion of their wedding.
[With:] Souvenir porcelain mug from the abandoned coronation of Edward VIII. England: N.p., [1936]. Height 3 1/8 in. Features a crowned portrait of Edward flanked by roses, oak branches, and flags. Above and below reads, "Coronation / May 12th 1937 / H.M. King / Edward VIII." The other side is decorated with Edward's crowned monogram reading "Long May He Reign." Edward's coronation was planned for 12 May 1937 at Westminster Abbey. When he abdicated on 11 December 1936, preparations were already well underway and public souvenirs, such as this mug, were on sale.
