[POLITICS IN AMERICA] -- [HARRISON, William Henry (1773-1841)]. Harrison 1840 campaign coat button with ink identification tag to Thompasontown, PA Justice of the Peace J. Stewart Lukens. 


21 mm brass flat 2-piece coat button. Waterbury, CT: Scovills & Co., ca 1840. Featuring military bust of Harrison facing left with an eagle on the collar, "GENL. W.H. HARRISON" above and 26 five-pointed stars. With manufacturer's "Scovills & Co., Waterbury" backmark. Albert PC 131, RV 50. 

Mounted to 2 3/8 x 2 1/2 in. card with 19th-century inscription: "Worn by Squire J. Stewart Lukens on a uniform used in the campaign which elected to the Presidency William Henry Harrison." John Stewart Lukens was a Justice of the Peace of Thompsontown, PA during the election of 1840 and was described as "an old line Whig" in the history of Juniata County.
