Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A group of 13 daguerreotype portraits of pairs of sisters and brothers, including:
Quarter plate portrait of two sisters, each wearing a neck ribbon with brooch, one holding a book on her lap. (Minor tarnishing around edges, few spots to plate; resealed.) Housed in a half pressed paper case (surface wear, residue). -- Sixth plate portrait of two sisters wearing red-tinted necklaces, the oldest holding a basket. (Tarnishing and spotting around edges; resealed 1999.) Housed in a full pressed paper case (surface wear). -- Sixth plate portrait of two brothers wearing matching outfits and looking somewhat surprised or apprehensive. (Tarnishing around edges, spotting and clouding throughout plate, heavy oxidation to mat and preserver; retains portions of original seal.) Housed in a half pressed paper case (significant surface wear). -- And 10 others, including 2 quarter plate examples and 8 sixth plate examples, some housed in full cases, others in half cases or no case. -- Together, 13 daguerreotype portraits of siblings.
