Lot Description

[WESTERN AMERICANA]. A group of assorted ephemera, including items related to sharpshooters, Native Americans, and William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody. 


State of Texas Treasury Warrant. Austin, TX, 1 March 1865. Ten Dollar denomination. Signed by W.L. Robards, Comptroller of Public Accounts. 6 1/2 x 2 1/2 in. -- Illustrated cover for M.M. Kickels, "Collector of Pistols, Iowa Falls, Iowa." 9 1/2 x 4 1/8 in. -- Cabinet card portrait of May Lillie and Pawnee Bill. York, PA: Swords Bro's, n.d. -- SHORTFIELD, Luke [JONES, John Beauchamp]. The Western Merchant: A Narrative, Containing Useful Instruction for the Western Man of Business Who Makes His Purchases in the East. Philadelphia: Grigg, Elliot & Co., 1849. -- And 9 paper photographs including unmounted silver gelatin images of western locales. 

[With:] The Field Artillery United States Army Travel-Earn-Learn Over 30 Trades...Adventure and Action. Washington, D.C.: Engineer Reproduction Plant, 1920. 19 x 25 1/8 in. poster (unexamined out of plastic covering, some fading/discoloration to edges). Numbered "222, 2-28-20" lower left. Colorful poster invites young men to go to the "Nearest Recruiting Office" to enlist (a space is left at the bottom for the address of the nearest recruiting office to be filled in). -- Back to the Sea. 1929. 12 1/2 x 19 in. poster (unexamined out of plastic covering, some fading). Poster features a halftone image of Samuel Harden Stille at upper right, with the words of his poem featured, printed in his handwriting, in two columns below. Note featured at upper left identifies the poem as having been written after Stille spent "An Inspiring Evening in the Studio of John Noble Painter of Plains and Sea. Xmas 1928." -- Ad Topperwein...Free Exhibition of Shooting. 9 1/2 x 17 1/2 in. (sight) poster, framed to 21 1/2 x 29 1/2 in. (unexamined out of the frame). "Printed in U.S.A." lower left. Spaces for location, date, and time of exhibition left blank.

[With:] MACNEIL, Hermon Atkins, artist. Bronze medal, 72 mm dia., featuring Hopi figures, [1931]. Obverse depicts a group of Hopi subject running with snakes in their hands above legend "Prayer For Rain." Reverse depicts Hopi dancers with snakes above legend, "Hopi." Society of Medalists Issue #3. -- Souvenir medallion for Denver Mountain Parks, 71 mm. dia., featuring likeness of Buffalo Bill Cody on one side and a buffalo below legend "Lucky Nickel" on the other.   

[Also with:] Printed materials, textiles, ceramicware, cigar boxes, illustrated portraits of Native Americans including Sitting Bull and Rain in the Face, and more. 

All items in generally fair condition, with expected wear given age.
