Lot Description

[LINCOLN, Abraham (1822-1865)]. Lincoln and Johnson jugate anti-slavery cover. [With:] Jugate lithograph card. 


For President. / A. Lincoln/ Vice President, A. Johnson. N.p.: N.p., ca 1864. 5 3/8 x 3 in. cover (postally used neatly opened along crease at left edge, light toning, small brown spot). Postally used with green 3 cent stamp. Addressed to "Mr. Barber / Pention [sic] Agent / Cleveland / Ohio."

Next to the jugate portraits of Lincoln and Johnson is a patriotic and explicitly anti-slavery list of campaign platforms: "Key Notes. / The Union must and shall be Preserved! / The Rebellion to be Suppressed by Forces of Arms / Unconditional Surrender the only terms! / Complete Extirpation of Slavery! / Condign Punishment of Rebels and Traitors! / Encouragement of Foreign Immigration! / Employment of Negro Soldiers!"
