Lot Description
SOUTHEY, Robert (1774-1843). Autograph letter signed ("Robert Southey"). Keswick [England], 13 October [no year].
2pp, approx. 7 x 8 3/4 in. (some chipping to edges, small tears along folds, adhesive on verso).
Robert Southey was a poet of the Romantic school and an associate of leading poets including William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Robert Lovell. He was appointed British Poet Laureate in 1813 and served until his death in 1843. The letter offered here concerns an account with a book binder, and gives a glimpse into the personal book collection of the poet. Writing from his home in Keswick, he concludes saying, "I have a great many more books which require binding or repairing: - & as my library is continually increasing, this will always be the case."
