Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Album containing photographs of an early NASCAR race featuring future World War I Fighting Ace Eddie Rickenbacker.

10 x 7 1/4 in. string-tied album with paper boards and embossed cover titled "Memories" (light soil, wear especially to corners). Includes approximately 107 photographs all of which are adhered to paper pages, most 5 x 3 1/8 in. others 2 1/8 x 3 1/8 in.  (toning, light soil, some with adhesive residue from verso bled through to image, overall good).

Approximately 25 images feature an early car race held on a dirt track with large grandstands filled with spectators. One sign attached to the wood rails reads "Omaha NEB." Several images feature handwritten notations on image margins which read "Joe Cooper - Sebring 7/5/15," "Eddie Rickenbacker - Maxwell 7/5/15," and "Eddie O'Donnell - Deusenberg 7/5/15." A group of 5 images appear to show a flight demonstration. These images all likely were taken at the Omaha Auto Speedway where inaugural races were held in July 1915, and Eddie Rickenbacker raced. Additional images are personal snapshots from trips, domestic life, and of unidentified people.
