Lot Description

[FLAGS & PATRIOTIC TEXTILES]. Two 45-star flags. [Ca 1896-1908].


70 1/2 x 115 in. wool flag with 45 machine-sewn, double-appliqued cotton stars in 8-7-8-7-8-7 pattern. Cotton hoist with two brass grommets and one eyelet, with stitched label identified to "G.H. Launier." (Toning, some light soiling, few repaired edges, few small scattered holes throughout). Accompanied by gold chord.

64 x 110 in. wool flag with 45 machine-sewn, double-appliqued cotton stars in 8-7-8-7-8-7 pattern. Cotton hoist with four brass grommets, with stamped initials "H.M." (Few holes, otherwise very good condition). 

Utah was the 45th state added to the Union in January 1896, with the flag becoming official on July 4 of that year. It served as the official flag for 12 years.
