London, Mallett at Bourdon House, Ltd., Sculptures by Jules Dalou (1838-1902), 28 April-9 May 1964, no. 26, p. 17
Note:
Cast from the artist's original wax model, the present bronze was conceived as a study for the figure allegorical of Justice in a larger figural group titled Monument à la Justice. Intended for the Salon Delacroix of the Palais Bourbon in Paris, Dalou's Monument à la Justice was never completed. A polychromed plaster and wood maquette of the figural group resides in the collection of the Petit Palais, musée des Beaux-arts de la Ville de Paris (no. 336), in addition to a plaster maquette very similar to the present lot (no. 227).
