This fragment preserves a female figure seized by the hair, likely positioned beneath a larger figure within a broader sculptural composition. The expressive face and exposed torso recall the so-called Nereid of Ostia. However, the figure may also be compared with analogous types found on Roman mythological sarcophagi, particularly Amazonomachy scenes, of which numerous variations survive. For example, see the Columnar Sarcophagus with the Labours of Hercules at the Galleria Borghese, Rome (Inv. no. LXXIX).
