Note:
The "Huntspill Church" referenced in the carving likely refers to St. Peter and All Hallows Church in West Huntspill, Somerset. Historical records date the Christian community at Huntspill to the 8th century. St. Peter's church was first established in the early 14th century, rebuilt around 1400, and further extended in the 15th and 16th centuries. The church was heavily renovated in 1878 when this element was likely removed. Just months later in 1878, the church was gutted by a devastating fire, but was restored over a period of three years. The church is now designated as a Grade I building.
Height overall: 70 1/2 inches.
The nose reattached. Please request a complete condition report.
The physical condition of lots in our auctions can vary due to age, normal wear and tear, previous damage, and restoration/repair. All lots are sold "AS IS," in the condition they are in at the time of the auction, and we and the seller make no representation or warranty and assume no liability of any kind as to a lot's condition.
